*Peru’s mining and energy ministry (Minem) has announced that mining exports totalled US$4.11bn in May, up 17.2% compared with the same month in 2023. Minem attributed the steep rise to an increase in industrial production in China. Copper exports were up 9.0% year-on-year at US$2.08bn, with Minem highlighting the impact of rising copper prices which countered a decrease in export volume due to low water levels on the Panama Canal. Gold exports were up 42.3% at US$1.27bn. Cumulative mining exports over the first five months of the year were up by 5.3% compared with the same period in 2023.
