In brief: Argentina to lower key import tariff

*Argentina’s Economy Minister Luis Caputo has announced that, from 2 September, the government will lower the PAIS import tariff from 17.5% to 7.5%. The tariff is imposed on the import of goods and freight. Between January and July, the government collected some Ar$4.3trn (US$4.5bn) in revenue from the PAIS tariff, around 6% of the total tax take for the period. The PAIS tax is also levied at a different rate on the purchase of foreign currency in Argentina. This rate will remain the same.
