*Peru’s Foreign Trade & Tourism Minister Elizabeth Galdo has travelled to El Salvador to launch talks aimed at signing a free trade agreement (FTA) between the two countries. Galdo met with El Salvador’s Economy Minister María Luisa Hayem Brevé on 22 August to mark the start of technical talks aimed at establishing a timeframe for negotiating the FTA. Bilateral trade between the two countries totalled US$73m in 2023, with Peruvian exports to El Salvador totalling US$51m (mainly chemical, agricultural, and metal products) and Salvadorean exports to Peru totalling US$22m (mainly agricultural products, petrol and gas, and textiles).
