Federal judges in Mexico went on strike on 21 August in protest against President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s proposed reform of the judicial system. The judges joined thousands of other judicial workers who went on an indefinite strike on 19 August. The strike action comes as legislators from the ruling left-wing Movimiento Regeneración Nacional (Morena) submitted a preliminary draft of the reform proposal to a congressional constitution committee on 16 August.
