In brief: Mexico’s Michoacán state gov’t responds to lime workers strike

*The government of Mexico’s Michoacán state has announced that it has taken control and operation of the open-air lime market in Apatzingán municipality, one of the municipalities affected by a strike by lime packing workers due to a drop in prices of the fruit. The state government said that this decision followed a meeting with lime producers and packers. The state interior minister, Carlos Torres Piña, recently said that 80% of packers in Apatzingán municipality had gone on strike, along with 70% in Buenavista municipality. This after the local press reported that lime producers and packers were halting operations earlier this week due to security concerns and the increase in extortion from organised criminal groups.
