*Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has released the country’s consumer price index (Ipca) for July, showing a monthly inflation rate of 0.38%. This marks an acceleration compared to 0.21% in June and to the 0.12% inflation registered in same month last year. The annual rate in the 12 months until July came to 4.50%, reaching the upper limit of the 2024 annual inflation target range of 3.00% +/-1.5 set by the central bank (BCB). Of the nine categories of products and services measured for the Ipca, seven registered a monthly rise in prices in July. The greatest increases were registered in transport and housing, with monthly inflation rates of 1.82% and 0.77% respectively. Within the transport category, notable rises in prices were registered for fuels such as gasoline (3.15%), diesel (1.03%), ethanol (5.90%), and other fuels (3.31%), but the most significant monthly rise was in airfares (19.39%).
