In brief: Brazil’s vehicle production up in July

*Brazil’s national association of vehicle manufacturers (Anfavea) has released its latest production figures, showing 247,000 units produced in July, up 17.0% from June. In a press release, Anfavea hailed this latest result as the highest monthly production figure since October 2019. The accumulated production for the first seven months of 2024 totalled 1.39m units, up 5.3% compared to the same period last year. In terms of domestic sales, Anfavea registered 242,000 vehicles sold in July, with an average of 10,500 units sold per day. This average daily sales figure marks a slight decrease from the 10,700 units per day sold in June, but the overall monthly sales result is 12.6% higher compared to June and 7.0% higher than the total sales in July 2023. Anfavea expressed optimism that bus sales would rise in the second half of this year, as local mayors are expected to ramp up efforts to improve public transport networks to boost their popularity ahead of municipal elections in October. The press release also noted more orders for buses through the federal government’s ‘Caminho da Escola’ (path to school) programme, an initiative first launched in 2007 to provide more school buses for students living in rural areas.
