*The state-controlled oil companies of Brazil and Colombia, Petrobras and Ecopetrol respectively, have announced the discovery of offshore gas in the Uchuva-2 well, which is owned by both companies. Located around 31km from Colombia’s northern coast in the Tayrona block, operations at the Uchuva-2 well began on 19 June. The companies have described the recent discovery as an extension of the natural gas reserves discovered in 2022 in the nearby Uchuva-1 well, also owned by the Ecopetrol-Petrobras consortium. According to a Petrobras press release, more surveys and lab tests of the Uchuva-2 discovery will be conducted in the coming months. By the end of 2024, the consortium is expected to have concluded a formation test to gauge the potential productivity of the well.
