*The number of daily ship transits through the Panama Canal has increased to 35 as of yesterday (5 August) as announced by the Panama Canal Authority (ACP) in late June. This followed the announcement earlier that month of plans to increase daily transits from 32 to 33 starting 11 July, and to 34 from 22 July, following improvements in water levels due to the rainy season in the Gatún Lake watershed, which feeds the Canal. Yesterday the ACP also announced that the Canal’s maximum authorised vessel draft would increase to 49 feet up from 48 feet.
