Tough task ahead for Mexico’s incoming security minister

On 4 July Mexico’s President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum announced that Omar García Harfuch would head up the public security ministry (SSPC) when she takes office on 1 October. Harfuch inherits a mammoth task. Murder rates remain sky high and drug trafficking organisations (DTOs) have arguably grown in power during the administration of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
