In brief: Nicaragua’s growth slows

*Nicaragua’s central bank (BCN) has released new figures for its monthly index of economic activity (Imae), registering 3.4% year-on-year growth in May. This is down from 7.4% growth in April. The May year-on-year figure was driven by energy & water (+13.5%), hotels & restaurants (12.7%), and construction (10.3%), while mining & quarrying was down 10.5% and fishing & aquaculture was down 3.5% year-on-year. In seasonally adjusted terms, the Imae for May was down 0.2% on the previous month, while in year-on-year seasonally adjusted terms, it was up 3.7% compared with May 2023.
