*Peru’s President Dina Boluarte has announced an overhaul of government, presenting bills to congress that would create a new infrastructure ministry and rename the interior ministry as the public security ministry. The proposed infrastructure ministry would absorb government bodies including the national infrastructure authority (ANI) and the body for investment studies and projects (Oedi). Boluarte said that uniting these entities would ensure greater efficiency and transparency. Prime Minister Gustavo Adrianzén said that “the lack of an entity that is dedicated exclusively to the construction of public infrastructure has made processes slower, more inefficient, and costlier”. Boluarte said that the planned name change of the interior ministry reflected an increase in organised crime, which she claimed had been fuelled by immigration. Boluarte had previously declared in September last year that tackling insecurity was her government’s main priority.
