In brief: Brazil’s current account deficit up in June

*Brazil’s central bank (BCB) has released its figures for the country’s balance of payments in June, which showed a current account deficit of US$4.0bn. This is up from the US$3.4bn deficit registered in May and the US$182m deficit in June 2023. The accumulated deficit in the 12 months until June 2024 came to US$31.5bn (1.41% of GDP). The monthly trade balance of goods registered a surplus of US$6.0bn, down from US$6.4bn in May and US$9.3bn in June last year. Foreign direct investment (FDI) in June totalled US$6.3bn, up from US$3.0bn in May and from US$2.0bn in the same month last year.
