*The governments of Venezuela and Trinidad & Tobago have signed an agreement which will enable Trinidad’s state-owned National Gas Company (NGC) to develop the Venezuelan side of the Manakin-Concuina natural gas field, which extends across the waters of both countries. The UK’s British Petroleum (BP) will be a partner in the project. Venezuela’s Oil Minister Pedro Tellechea, who is also the president of state oil company Petróleos de Venezuela (Pdvsa), wrote on social media that “Venezuela is heading into a virtuous future of economic prosperity based on our enormous energy potential”. NGC and the British multinational oil firm Shell had previously been granted a licence in December 2023 to develop Venezuela’s offshore Dragón natural gas fields.
