In brief: Colombia’s Petro promulgates pension reform bill
*Colombia’s President Gustavo Petro has promulgated the pension reform bill that was approved by congress on 14 June. The reform will increase contributions to the state pension fund administrator, Colpensiones, which will use this increased revenue to boost the pensions of lower earners. Petro said that “now we need to defend” the pension reform, which is facing an appeal in the constitutional court from the right-wing opposition party Centro Democrático (CD). CD has argued that the reform did not receive sufficient debate in the lower chamber of congress.
