In brief: Inflation in Mexico continues upward trend

*Mexicos national statistics institute (Inegi) has reported that the consumer price index (INPC) increased by 0.38% in June compared to the previous month. This brings the annual inflation rate to 4.98%, up from 4.69% in May, when inflation decreased by 0.19% in monthly terms, and marking the fourth consecutive month of annual increases. Annual inflation is now at its highest level this year, above January’s rate of 4.88%. The core inflation rate, which excludes volatile items, rose by 0.22% in monthly terms and 4.13% in yearly terms. At the end of June, Mexico’s central bank (Banxico) announced it was holding interest rates at 11%, for a second consecutive time, citing ongoing inflationary pressure.
