*Brazil’s ministry of industry & trade has released the latest figures for the country’s trade balance, showing a surplus of US$6.71bn in June, down 33.4% compared to the surplus registered in June last year. The latest surplus is also lower than the US$8.40bn registered in May. The total export value for June came to US$29.04bn, down 1.9% year-on-year, while imports totalled US$22.33bn, up 14.4% from June 2023. The export value for agricultural products was US$7.70bn in June this year, down 3.7% in annual terms. The manufacturing sector also saw a yearly drop, registering an export value of US$14.45bn (-6.8%). However, extractive industries saw a year-on-year increase in monthly export value, with US$6.80bn (+15.3%). The yearly rise in imports in June was mainly driven by a 50.7% increase in agricultural imports, registering a total import value of US$470m. The accumulated trade balance between January-June totalled US$42.31bn, down 5.2% compared to the same period of 2023.
