BELIZE: PUP government cracks down on gangs

For the second time in the space of six months, the centre-left People’s United Party (PUP) government of Prime Minister Johnny Briceño has imposed a state of emergency for 90 days in Belize. Police Commissioner Chester Williams said that police officers and soldiers in the Belize Defence Force (BDF) are patrolling areas in Belize City where there has been a surge in violent clashes between rival drug gangs in recent weeks.
