*Peru’s congress has approved a government bill that will give President Dina Boluarte the power to legislate by decree for the next 90 days on issues relating to economic reactivation, regulatory simplification and quality, business activity, public security, and national defence. The bill was approved in its second hearing with 58 votes in favour, 40 against, and 16 abstentions, after congress returned from its legislative recess for an extraordinary session. Prime Minister Gustavo Adrianzén thanked congress for granting the increased powers to Boluarte and said that “with these measures we will attract more investment which will create jobs that improve the quality of life of thousands of citizens, and we will reduce the level of organised crime, with the aim of guaranteeing the conditions that will consolidate the country’s growth”.
