In brief: Nicaragua’s economic activity picks up

*Nicaragua’s central bank (BCN) has released new figures for its monthly index of economic activity (IMAE), registering 7.4% year-on-year growth in April 2024. This is up from 1.3% growth in March. The April year-on-year figure was driven by mining & quarrying (+46.2%), trade (+14.2%), and energy & water (12.4%), while fishing & aquaculture was down 2.2% year-on-year. In seasonally adjusted terms, the IMAE for April was up 0.4% on the previous month, while in year-on-year seasonally adjusted terms, it was up 4.5% compared with April 2023.
