Uruguayans will head to the polls on 30 June to cast their ballots in primary elections that will decide the candidates that compete in the first round of presidential elections on 27 October. The result of the contest within President Luis Alberto Lacalle Pou’s centre-right Partido Nacional (PN, Blancos) looks like a foregone conclusion. Álvaro Delgado enjoys a huge lead in the PN primary race, according to electoral surveys. The contest is closer in the main left-wing Frente Amplio (FA) opposition coalition, although Yamandú Orsi enjoys a comfortable lead over his main rival.
