MEXICO: Sheinbaum plays cabinet balancing act

Although Mexico’s President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum is not taking office until 1 October, her cabinet is already taking shape. After an earlier announcement that the current finance minister, Rogelio Ramírez de la O, would retain his role in her government, Sheinbaum unveiled a further six members of her cabinet on 20 June. The picks indicate that Sheinbaum is carrying out a shrewd balancing act: demonstrating continuity with the current administration of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador while leaving her own stamp in terms of the priorities of the incoming cabinet and the emphasis on technical expertise.
