COLOMBIA: Petro becomes latest president to face spying allegations

Allegations of illegal espionage by the Colombian intelligence services have been commonplace since the turn of the century, with wiretapping scandals emerging during the governments of the country’s last four presidents. President Gustavo Petro is the latest Colombian leader to deny misusing the intelligence services for political gain, after magistrates on the constitutional court (CC) claimed that they had been illegally placed under surveillance.
