Model economy in election year

With the longest continuous democracy, one of the highest per capita incomes, and among the lowest poverty rates in Latin America, Uruguay for some time has stood out amongst its peers in the region. And this year again Uruguay defies regional trends. While most incoming governments inherit a dire economic situation, the winner of the October election in this country of 3.4m inhabitants will face a vibrant economy with solid public finances and one of the best credit ratings in the region.
