VENEZUELA: More opposition arrests

Venezuela’s political opposition has again been targeted with a string of arrests and bans on holding public office as the 28 July election approaches. With the opposition coalition Plataforma Unitaria Democrática (PUD) remaining united around Edmundo González’s candidacy, the latest repressive measures appear aimed at deterring campaigners from publicly criticising President Nicolás Maduro in the final five weeks of the election campaign.
