*Ecuador’s energy and mining minister, Roberto Luque, has said that power has been restored across the majority of the country following a nationwide blackout yesterday. Luque said that the outages were 95% resolved, following a failure on the Milagro Zhoray transmission line. He blamed the blackout on decades of underinvestment in electricity generation and distribution. Ecuador has suffered recurrent power outages in recent months that have at times forced the government to introduce scheduled blackouts. The main cause of the problem has been low water levels at hydroelectric power plants, on which Ecuador is heavily reliant.
