MEXICO: Violence overshadows biggest electoral year

Political violence has cast a dark hue on Mexico’s biggest-ever electoral year. Mexicans will go to the polls on 2 June to elect a new president, the entire federal congress, eight state governors, the head of Mexico City (CDMX) government, and over 19,000 local positions. However, one of the biggest stories of this electoral period has been the risks faced by candidates and aspirants for public office, with more killed than ever before.
