*The Companhia Nacional de Abastecimento (Conab), the logistics arm of Brazil’s agriculture ministry, has released its latest forecast for the 2024 coffee harvest, projecting a harvest of 58.81m sacks of coffee (one sack = 60kg), which would mark a 6.8% increase from the 2023 harvest and a 15.5% increase from 2022. Arabica coffee is expected to account for most of the 2024 harvest, with a forecast of 42.11m sacks. The south-eastern state of Minas Gerais is projected to produce the most arabica coffee this year, with 29.84m sacks. The forecast for conilon coffee comes to 16.71m sacks, which would be the second-highest conilon harvest on record in Brazil. The south-eastern state of Espírito Santo is the leading producer of this coffee variety, and Conab expects climate conditions to grow conilon in the state to be more favourable this year.
