Panama’s president-elect José Raúl Mulino has unveiled his cabinet picks ahead of taking office on 1 July. An interior and security minister under right-wing former populist president Ricardo Martinelli (2009-2014), Mulino won the 5 May general election through his identification with his former boss, having stepped in for Martinelli after he was barred from running for his Realizando Metas (MS) over a money laundering conviction [WR-24-18]. Mulino’s choice of cabinet features well-known members of the political and business elite and figures who served under Martinelli, as well as reflecting his pledges to continue the pro-business policies of his former boss.
