In brief: Chile records strong growth in Q1

*Chile’s central bank (BCCh) has released new figures showing that GDP grew by 2.3% in the first quarter of 2024 compared to the same quarter of 2023. In quarterly terms, GDP was up by 1.9%. The quarterly result follows growth of just 0.4% in the final quarter of 2023, 0.6% in the third quarter, and -0.4% in the second quarter.  This comes after Chile’s finance ministry raised its 2024 GDP growth forecast to 2.7%, citing a “solid” first quarter and an increase in the price of copper, its top export.
