*Mexico’s state-run electricity company Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE) has announced that it is developing the first floating solar power plant in Latin America. In a statement, the CFE said that project, which consists of mounting solar panels on a structure that floats on a body of water, would allow for an increase in renewable energy generation of over 120 megawatts and formed part of effects to accelerate the green energy transition in Mexico, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and combat climate change. The project will be funded via a €150m (US$161m) credit line from France’s development agency (AFD), which will be paid back over 15 years with a two-year grace period, under preferential financial conditions. Potential sites for the power plant are in the north of Sinaloa or Coahuila states, both in the north of Mexico. The project is currently undergoing an engineering feasibility study.
