In brief: Cuba claims rise in tourism

*Cuba’s national statistics office (ONEI) has released new figures showing that over 809,000 tourists visited Cuba in the first three months of 2024, up 7.5% on the same period in 2023. A report by state mouthpiece Granma highlighted that key source countries were: Canada, Russia, the US, Germany, France, among others. According to Granma, over 2.4m tourists visited the country in 2023, which it said indicated the sector’s “gradual recovery” following the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
