MEXICO: What if Trump wins?

This year is unusual because both Mexico and the US will hold presidential elections (Mexico in June, the US in November). Since Mexico has a six-year presidential term and the US has a four-year one, that combination won’t happen again until 2036. All else being equal, having two North American elections in one year points to greater political uncertainty. But for Mexico there is an additional risk: the potential impact on economic and trade relations if former president Donald Trump (2017-2021) wins in the US.
