The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) expressed “concern about the possible escalation of tensions” between Guyana and Venezuela on 16 April over their territorial dispute in the Essequibo region. The UNSC urged the two countries to “exercise maximum restraint” and stressed “the importance of regional actors playing a facilitating role in easing the tensions”.
