*Argentina’s public sector employees’ union Asociación Trabajadores del Estado (ATE) has called a new national strike for 30 April. In a statement, the union said it was calling the strike in protest of “austerity policies, wage freezes, mass layoffs, and attempts to close public sector agencies”. ATE secretary general, Rodolfo Aguiar, stated that: “We are at a time in which the unions are being called to become a true opposition to this government and to the austerity plan it is trying to carry out.” Demonstrations will take place in major cities. Aguiar also called for protests in Río Negro province tomorrow (19 April) to coincide with the arrival of President Javier Milei and “the richest business people in the country” for the Llao Llao business forum. ATE led previous protests at the beginning of the month.
