Claudio Vidal, the governor of Argentina’s southern province of Santa Cruz, has announced a new economic and investment agreement with the chamber of commerce of Fuzhou, the capital of China’s Fujian province. A statement by the Santa Cruz governor said that the priority of cooperation will be the “
strengthening of trade and investment ties in the energy, mining and agri-food sectors”. It adds that the agreement also seeks to shore up the province’s position with regard to the export of “
fishing, hydrocarbons and renewable energy”. The announcement of the agreement comes as the federal government led by President
Javier Milei has recently sought
to downplay relations with China amid its efforts to boost ties with the US.
