In brief: Brazil’s services sector registers monthly slump

*Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has released its latest figures for the country’s services sector, which showed a monthly decrease of 0.9% in services volume in February. This drop comes after three consecutive months of slight monthly increases. However, the services volume this February did register a 2.5% increase compared to the same month last year. The services volume in the 12 months until February 2024 was also up 2.2% from the previous 12-month period. Of the five services categories measured, four registered monthly decreases, with the greatest drops registered in professional, administrative, & complementary services (-1.9%) and information & communications services (-1.5%). The only category to register a monthly rise was services for families (+0.4%).
