In brief: Mexico registers job losses in March

*Mexico’s national social security institute (IMSS) has released a new report showing it had registered 22.28m jobs as of 31 March 2024 – a drop from the 22.29m it had registered at the end of February. According to IMSS figures cited by the government led by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the net number of jobs created and registered in the first three months of the year was 264,959, down from 265,424 in the first two months. This means that 465 jobs were lost in the formal sector in March. The IMSS attributes the fall in March to the seasonal impact of the Semana Santa Easter holidays.
