*The Venezuelan independent economic think tank Observatorio Venezolano de Finanzas (OVF) has calculated that Venezuela’s monthly inflation rate in March was 3.9%, bringing the annual inflation rate to 89%. Both rates are up from the OVF’s inflation estimates for February, when it reported monthly deflation of 0.5% and annual inflation of 85%. The OVF noted that in March, food prices increased by 4.8%, transport by 4.6%, and communications by 4.2%. However, Venezuela’s central bank (BCV) put monthly inflation in March at 1.2%, showing no variation from the previous month and down from 1.7% in January. The BCV does not release figures for annual inflation.
