In brief: Rise in Brazil’s vehicle production and sales

*Brazil’s national association of vehicle manufacturers (Anfavea) has released its latest production and sales figures, showing that 195,800 vehicles were produced in March, while monthly domestic sales totalled 187,700 units. This production figure marks a 3.2% increase from February and sales were up 13.6% in monthly terms. Total production in the first quarter of 2024 was registered at 538,000 units, up 0.4% from the same quarter in 2023. Domestic sales in Q1 totalled 515,000 units, up 9.1% year-on-year. In a press release, Anfavea expressed optimism that the coming months would continue to show strong production figures and welcomed the efforts from the federal government to support the automotive sector, citing the investments from major international carmakers announced in recent months and the government’s tax incentive programme aimed at boosting electric vehicle production (Mover), which was first launched in a decree in December 2023.
