In brief: Inflation slows in Chile

*Chile’s national statistics institute (INE) has released the latest figures for the consumer price index, showing that inflation slowed to 0.4% in March, down from 0.6% in February. This brings accumulated inflation in the first three months of the year to 1.6% and 12-month inflation to March to 3.7%, down from annual inflation of 4.5% the previous month. A 5.4% increase in prices in the education sector - coinciding with the start of the school year - and a 0.8% increase in housing and utilities compared with February drove March inflation, while food and beverage prices fell by 0.9%. The central bank’s latest monetary policy report forecasts inflation to close the year at 3.8%.
