*Brazil’s central bank (BCB) has released its latest fiscal statistics for the public sector, showing a primary deficit of R$48.7bn (US$9.6bn) in February, a greater deficit that the R$26.5bn registered for the same month last year. The latest deficit follows a primary surplus of R$102.1bn registered in January 2024. The accumulated primary deficit in the 12 months until February 2024 totalled R$268.2bn (2.44% of GDP). The public sector’s nominal deficit this February came to R$113.9bn and the accumulated annual nominal deficit totalled R$1.02trn (9.24% of GDP).
