*Argentina’s national statistics institute (Indec) has released its latest report on urban poverty and destitution, which shows that the poverty rate in the second half of 2023 was up 1.6 percentage points compared with the first half of 2023, with 41.7% of the surveyed population living in poverty in July-December last year (equivalent to 12.3m people). It also showed a rise in destitution with 11.9% of those surveyed living in destitution, up 2.6 percentage points on the first half of 2023. This is equivalent to 3.5m people living in destitution.
