HAITI: Challenges facing MSS
As we went to press Haiti’s security situation had reached a new low amid a series of attacks coordinated by prominent gang leader Jimmy ‘Barbecue’ Chérizier, with the stated aim of bringing down the government. Major uncertainty surrounds the efforts to secure the deployment of the Kenya-led multinational security support (MSS) mission to Haiti, which the international community touts as a solution to the country’s ever worsening security crisis [SSR-24-01], following a January ruling by a Kenyan high court which found it to be unconstitutional.
