TRINIDAD & TOBAGO: Ghost ship dumps oil

On the morning of 7 February, a mysterious oil-carrying vessel ran aground on a reef off the coast of Tobago, spilling its cargo into a long slick which is polluting the marine habitat and threatening tourism. Trinidad & Tobago’s Prime Minister Keith Rowley declared a national emergency. By 14 February, satellite images indicated that the oil slick had travelled 160km eastward. By 21 February it was threatening waters off Venezuela, Grenada, and Bonaire.
