DOMINICAN REPUBLIC: Plaudits for anti-corruption efforts

The latest Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) released by Berlin-based anti-corruption NGO Transparency International (TI) at the end of January highlighted the Dominican Republic as “the only country in the region to have made significant progress in the fight against corruption since 2021”. This was the year after President Luis Abinader and his Partido Revolucionario Moderno (PRM) took office, ending the Partido de la Liberación Dominicana (PLD)’s 16-year stranglehold on power.
