The attorney general of Brazil, Paulo Gonet, is reviewing a report that was filed by the federal police (PF) on 19 March which recommended criminal charges against former president Jair Bolsonaro (2019-2023) in relation to an alleged scheme to tamper with public health records and create false coronavirus (Covid-19) vaccine certification. If the attorney general takes up the case it would represent the first criminal charges pressed against Bolsonaro since he left office. The national media has also been speculating on whether Bolsonaro will face charges from another PF investigation into an alleged conspiracy to stage a military coup. The supreme court (STF) disclosed testimony on 15 March which revealed that witnesses have blamed Bolsonaro for presenting the plot to military leaders.
