*Brazil’s labour ministry has released the latest figures from its national employment registry (Novo Caged), showing a net 180,395 jobs created in January. This comes after a net job loss was registered in December 2023. In January, four of the five economic sectors measured saw a monthly rise in job creation. The sector which saw the greatest net job creation was services, with a net 80,587 formal jobs created. In a press release, the labour ministry highlighted the strong figures in the category of information, communication, financial, real estate, professional and administration services, which registered a net 47,352 jobs created. In terms of regional variation, the states with the highest monthly job creation were São Paulo (+38,499), Santa Catarina (+26,210), and Rio Grande do Sul (+20,810). In the former two states, the industrial sector saw the most net jobs created, while in the agricultural sector saw the highest net jobs created in Rio Grande do Sul.
