HONDURAS: Hernández convicted
Honduras’ former president Juan Orlando Hernández (Partido Nacional, PN, 2014-2022) has been found guilty by a US federal court on three drug and weapons-related counts. Extradited to the US in April 2022, less than three months after leaving office, Hernández is one of the most prominent Latin American leaders to have been convicted in the US. His conviction marks a rare boon for Hondurans seeking justice for past impunity, which had significantly deteriorated under successive PN administrations, even if it was in the US rather than in domestic courts.
