In brief: Mexico posts annual rise in international tourism

*Mexico’s national statistics institute (Inegi) has announced a 3.6% increase in international tourist arrivals and a 4.6% overall increase in visitors in January compared to the same month last year. In January, 3.64m international tourists arrived in Mexico, surpassing the 3.51m who arrived in January 2023, according to Inegi’s most recent report. In January 2024, foreign exchange revenue from total visitor expenditure reached US$3.14bn, up 4.7% from the same month in 2023. Border tourism was up by 6.1% year-on-year, with over 1.25m visitors entering the country by car or on foot. Meanwhile, arrivals by plane increased 3.4% to approximately 2.16m.
